How I Started

How I Fell in Love with DIY Projects (And Saved Big Along the Way)
Over 15 years ago, I took the leap into the world of DIY, and I’ve never looked back. It all started in my first apartment, when I decided to tackle laminate flooring and floor molding on my own. I remember using a chop saw for the first time – feeling a mix of excitement and a bit of nervousness, but mostly a rush of empowerment. The moment I made that first cut, something clicked. I was hooked.
I realized that I didn’t need to wait for anyone else to come in and fix things for me. I could learn, I could do it myself, and I could be proud of the results. That initial experience was a game-changer. It didn’t just give me new skills; it gave me the confidence to take on anything. From small repairs to big transformations, I started taking on more and more projects around the house, from painting walls to installing new fixtures and furniture.
The best part? I saved so much money by not hiring contractors. What once seemed like a huge barrier became just another opportunity to learn and grow. Over time, I became unafraid to tackle even bigger challenges, like installing new shelves, creating custom decor, or even remodeling rooms entirely.
DIY has opened up a world of possibilities for me. I’ve gained not just new skills but a sense of pride in creating something with my own hands. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a project come together from start to finish. Plus, the sense of accomplishment I feel after completing each project is unmatched.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you don’t need to wait for permission, a contractor, or a professional to make your space your own. Sometimes all you need is a little courage, a good tool (and maybe a tutorial or two), and the willingness to get your hands a little dirty. Trust me – you’ll be amazed at what you can do when you give yourself the chance.
So, whether it’s your first DIY project or your hundredth, I say dive in. The best part? The journey, and the money you’ll save along the way.
My House Project
When we moved into our new construction home, everything was exactly as we expected—clean, modern, and brand new. But, to be honest, it felt a bit bland. The neutral tones and standard finishes were nice, but they didn’t have any of the warmth or personality that would make it ours. It was clear that this house, while beautiful, needed something more—something that truly reflected who we are.
So, instead of just leaving it as is, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I’m in the process of customizing every room to make it feel like home. We want our space to be cozy, inviting, and filled with character. From DIY projects to adding personal touches, I’m working on turning this house into a place that feels authentic and truly ours. The journey is just beginning, but I’m so excited to see how it all comes together!
